Garrison School Reviews

Garrison school has all the appearance of being a good school. With an average of 16 children per class, one would presume that class work could be tailored to fit the different needs of each student. Bright children are bored by unchallenging academics and others who might need special attention are completely overlooked. This school has a long way to go and the current administration lacks the leadership ability and vision needed to turn this into a top notch school. If you are thinking of moving to Garrison to avoid the high price of private school think again. This is a small school, but it is not a good school.

Garrison School is a small, nurturing environment in a beautiful natural setting. Class sizes are small and the whole school (k-8) is around 300 kids, more like a private school than most public schools. The elementary teachers are excellent and the overall quality of education is very good. The facilities are great with a new gym that was just built a few years ago. The drawbacks are lack of extracurricular activities, especially for middle school students; the size of the school makes it hard to build strong after school programs.

I went to this school for my elementary education. It was a very good school when I went, but I have seen it become very political and over-whelmingly hypocritical. The Art and music programs are very good, but there is no beginner orchestra. There is a lot of parent involvement due to the fact that it is a very small school. It was better in my hey-day but it still retains the small atmosphere.

All in all the school is good. K-5th are the best years the school offers. Classes are very small (2 classes per grade) and all the students know eachother. It may be better then many private schools. Middle school is awful! The teachers are not wonderful for the most part and if your child is like most...there will be at least one or two that will not be right for your child...the bad news is that both you and your child are stuck with the same teachers for 3 years with no options! Music and art teacher are the same K-8.
