Nyack Middle School Reviews

A wonderful safe place for our daughter to learn and grow. Staff care and are responsive and involved.

Ever since I moved to Nyack in 2001, the MS has had a very poor and probably well deserved reputation. However, with the introduction of a new Principal and Vice Principal in 2007, the school has really experienced a turn around. This team works so well together and are clearly very committed to the improvement of the school. They have been very clear about behavioral expectations, which have been communicated to both parents and students, and have been diligently enforced. The children are now able to learn much more effectively in a safe and less distracting school environment. I am very encouraged and congratulate them on the progress they have made in such a short time.

The overall quality of academic programs are good but not the best. Parent involvement shoudl be more encouraged.

The school is looking for another principal yet again.Four principals in five years.Dr.McCalla has proven to be a competent and effective principal. He has been successful in bringing respect and order in a school that was always considered to be a problem school. The attitudes of the staff and the children are positive and peaceful. The children come to school with proper clothing and ready to learn. There is no more competition among the kids in the type of clothing they wear.Fewer and fewer disciplinary problems. The grades have improved. The positive changes can not be argued. We should not be looking for a new principal, we shoul work with the good principal we have. Only with support and cooperation, we are able to accomplish what is in the best interest of our kids.

My child received a wonderful education at this public school. He is in advanced classes and has had excellent teachers for 3 years. He is happy and well adjusted and I credit it partly to the schools staff.

Not many parents that I speak to are pleased with this school in an overall sense. Three pricipals in three years, now a new vice principal. An embattled school board, discipline problems, and a combative administration that has shirked its responsibilites by hiring a cadre of educational consultants to do its work.
