French Hill Elementary School Reviews

My son had transferred to French Hill this year for 2nd grade, he previously went to a local catholic school where he was basically left to fall behind due to some special educational needs he has. The people/teachers at French Hill have been wonderful, caring and are trying very hard to help my son catch up and work through his special learning needs. These services are not available in the private schools, atleast they were not offered to my son. So far he loves the school and afterschool enrichment program. He is much happier and does not mind going to school everyday. They are in constent contact with me regarding any issues in class. It has made my life much better.

I have a son there, and my other son is going to be in kindergarten next sept. All I can say that this school is being not just a great school but a support for my son and my family since we been through a difficult time last year.

Our son is in first grade and we love the school. His teachers have been truly excellent and have really made an effort to understand our son and to teach him in the way that he learns best. He is 'behind' in some areas and 'advanced' in others, and his teachers have understood this and have helped him where he needs help and challenged him where he needs challenging. The classes are small and the small group time gives teachers a chance to really work with the kids based on their needs. Since the school is K-2 only, it is a small and nurturing environment.

As an involved parent of the PTA I can say there is much opportunity for parent involvement. Unfortunately, only about 1/3rd of families get involved. The availability for art, music and sports is good. Hard to comment of academic programs but I know that they got rid of the gifted and talented program due to budget cuts.

Directed to 'February 2006' parent. As it was explained to me (& observed thru my children), the kindergarten teachers use a balanced literacy approach to reading w/ an emphasis on guided reading. The children are wonderfully prepared for 1st especially in reading and given it is a half day program. To be honest, you have no idea what the teachers consistently do unless you are in that class observing the teaching. Sometimes children struggle w/ the transition into 1st or struggle w/ reading and automatically blame teachers instead of facing the fact that their child may require extra support.

All of our children have had excellent experience with wonderful, caring teachers and administration at French Hill. The 1st and 2nd grade are fine, but the Kindergarten doesn't really prepare children for reading or much else.

I have had two children that have been in French Hill. I think it is the perfect school for this age children. the teachers, principal and administrative staff are wonderful.

Wonderful, supportive environment and staff. They have a terrific reading program. I am very happy with my son's kindergarten experience.
